A surprise move by JP Rangaswami as he moves from his role as chief scientist at Salesforce.com to become Deutsche Bank's first Chief Data Officer.
His new role will see him charged with standardising the bank's processes, tools and governance around information to support its
digital strategy. He'll be based in London and will report to Kim Hammonds, global CIO and global co-head of group technology and operations and Jim Turley, global co-head of GTO.
Hammonds says:
JP has a track record of partnering closely with senior business leaders to deliver innovation. He will help drive competitive advantage by deepening the Bank's insights into clients and markets, while enhancing its data quality and controls.
Rangaswami previously worked as CIO at BT and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.
My take
A big loss for Salesforce.com as Rangaswami has been one of the firm's most powerful cloud customer advocates, often shipped in to high level executive sessions with prospects to provide the evangelical sell.
But congratulations to JP.
